Located in the lower part of each greater wing of the |sphenoid bone| is a spiny ~process~ at the point of articulation of the greater wing of the sphenoid and the |temporal bone|. Near this |spine| are two openings which admit ~blood~ vessels and ~nerves~ through the bone. The smaller of these, named for its proximity to the |spine|, is the foramin spinosum, while the larger, an oval shaped ~foramen~, is called the |foramen ovale| and admits the mandibular ~nerve~.
